THE WORKERS : A series of paintings on the blessing of work

ABOUT THE EXHIBIT
"The Workers" continues the "To Work" series of paintings celebrating
work in all of it's many and varied forms. The ability to earn one's bread,
provide for oneself and others the necessities of life through honest, hard and
or smart work is a gift of God. Work is a noble act. Diginity, self respect
and service to others are it's fruits.

  • TO WORK
The "To Work" series began with a celebration of work. The neccessity to work and the different ways people went to work. Looking at the various professions seemed to be a natural direction for the next peices and so "The Workers" were made. Use the link to view the 2016 online exhibtion of "To Work". To the right, the completed painting "By Bus" and video of the work in progres.

  • FROM THE SKETCHBOOK - THE PROCESS
My process for painting is extremely simple and always begins with a sketch. The number of sketches depends on how quickly the idea and composition is captured. Sometimes multiple variations are made, other times just one sketch works. Once the composition is right the skecth is refined, enlarged and transfered to a preprared surface, usually masonite. Starting with an underpainting of acrylic paint, color is blocked in quickly. The final overpainting is done with alkyd oil paints.
